How One Doctor Successfully Transitioned To Owning A Private Practice During The Pandemic

CLIENT PROFILE

Start-up of a three-provider Allergy & Asthma private practice consisting of 3 locations in the Central Ohio region.

THE OPPORTUNITY

After many years being part of an independent Allergy and Asthma group practice, this physician leader had a desire to open her own private practice. With one location in place she had purchased from her previous group and a second location in mind to meet patients’ needs, she aimed to open her practice on March 9, 2020.

On that same day, Governor Mike DeWine declared a State of Emergency in Ohio.

THE SOLUTION

MMG was engaged to complete approximately 60 days of pre-opening work and 60 days of post-opening support.

Ahead of the opening, the team at MMG:

  • Helped negotiate site locations
  • Worked with the physician on needed space renovations
  • Supported employee recruitment
  • Assisted with office set up
  • Set up appropriate banking relationships and practice policies for financing needs
  • Ensured forms and procedures were in place for practice start up

Additionally, MMG was tasked with providing Revenue Cycle Services for the practice, including helping to set the needed credentialing services to get the providers on the required insurance panels.

THE OUTCOME

By ensuring that the practice was set up and running efficiently from an operations, billing and credentialing perspective, the MMG team was able to help the practice accomplish a successful launch despite the severe impacts of COVID-19.  Critical tasks were completed and contingency plans were created and well executed, helping the practice reach projected volumes and generate stable cash flow.

Based on results, MMG’s initial management engagement with the practice was renewed for an additional nine months to help the physician leader through her first year of owning her own practice
